Leadwork and lead flashing in King's Lynn
Code 4 and code 5 valleys, chimney trays, box gutters and parapets, formed on site.
The old town has more lead per roof than anywhere else in west Norfolk. Parapet gutters, secret gutters between ranges, wide valleys and chimney stacks with four flues and a tray around each. Most of it is Victorian, a lot of it has been patched with mastic by somebody in a hurry, and mastic on lead is a two year fix at best.
Where lead actually fails
Rarely in the middle of a sheet. Almost always at a joint that was made too long, so thermal movement has split it, or at a chimney where the flashing was never chased into the brick and is simply sitting on it. Both are permanent repairs if they are done properly and annual repairs if they are not.
Listed buildings and the conservation area
A good deal of the historic quarter is listed or in the conservation area, and lead is usually the only covering that will be approved for a valley or a parapet. We work to Lead Sheet Association sizing and we will put the code and the bay lengths in the quote, which is what a conservation officer wants to see.
