Storm damage repair

Slipped and missing tiles, stripped ridge and lifted verge after a blow off The Wash.

Problems we are asked about

Straight answers to the questions that usually come before a storm damage repair job.

Why do my roof tiles keep slipping?

Tiles slip when whatever was holding them has failed: a snapped nib on a clay pantile, a rusted nail, a rotten batten or a mortar bed at the verge or ridge that has washed out. Wind off The Wash finds the weak ones first, which is why it happens in the same few weeks each winter. Re-fixing the slipped tile is the repair; working out why it slipped is what stops the next one.

How quickly can a storm-damaged roof be made watertight?

A slipped or missing tile can usually be made watertight the same day with a temporary cover or a replacement tile, and a proper repair follows once the wind has dropped and we can get on the roof safely. Larger damage, such as a stripped ridge or a lifted verge, gets a tarpaulin first and a repair inside the week. Photograph everything before we touch it, because your insurer will want to see it.
